 Job Summary
 
Qualicare Homecare BC is seeking an energetic, reliable Companion/Caregiver to support a friendly adult client with mild autism during evening activities in the community.

This role focuses primarily on companionship, social engagement, and community participation rather than clinical care. The caregiver will accompany the client to recreational activities, provide guidance and support during outings, and help foster independence, confidence, and positive social experiences.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys sports, outdoor activities, concerts, and community events, and who brings a positive, engaging presence.

Location: Vancouver, BC
Schedule: Evenings, typically 5:30 PM – 10:30 PM
Hours: Minimum 4 hours, up to 8 hours per shift
Days: Flexible schedule or set days, 3–4 evenings per week

Responsibilities
 
Community & Social Support
 
  • Accompany client to sports events, movies, concerts, and community activities
  • Participate in outdoor activities such as skating, biking, or visiting a golf driving range
  • Provide friendly conversation and companionship
  • Support social interaction and community engagement
  • Help plan outings such as booking tickets or navigating venues
Transportation
 
  • Drive client to activities and appointments using a provided vehicle
  • Ensure safe transportation during outings
Daily Living Support
 
  • Assist with light home organization
  • Help with grocery shopping and errands
  • Support basic meal planning and meal preparation

Emotional & Behavioral Support
 
  • Provide a calm and reassuring presence if the client experiences stress or sensory overload
  • Encourage independence, routines, and positive decision-making
  • Model respectful and positive social interactions
Care Coordination
 
  • Follow the care plan
  • Communicate with the Care Coordinator
  • Complete basic documentation/shift notes
 
Qualifications
 
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Comfortable driving within Vancouver and surrounding areas
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
  • Criminal Record Check – Vulnerable Sector (or willingness to obtain)
  • Access to smartphone with internet
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

The ideal candidate is someone who is:
 
  • Active, social, and comfortable in public settings
  • Patient, encouraging, and respectful
  • Reliable and able to commit consistently
  • Comfortable supporting neurodivergent adults
  • Interested in sports, outdoor activities, or community events
Experience supporting individuals with autism or neurodivergence is an asset but not required.
